How To Register

  1. You only need to register one time to establish your free SchoolNotes.com account.
  2. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  3. Click on "Teachers Register Here" in the left hand margin.
  4. Complete the registration form to set up your notes account using the ZIPCODE OF YOUR SCHOOL.
  5. Remember your school zipcode, account, and password.
  6. Click on the "SUBMIT REGISTRATION INFORMATION" button at the bottom of the form.
  7. If your requested account name has not been taken and you supplied all the required information, you will receive a message stating you are now registered. If your requested account name is already taken or you are missing some information you will receive a list of what is needed to complete the registration.
  8. If registered, continue on to Creating/Updating Your Notes.

Creating/Updating Your Notes

  1. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  2. Click on the "Create Notes" button at the top of the screen.
  3. Enter your school zipcode, account, and password.
  4. Click on the "LOGIN" button.
  5. Enter your school information (homework etc.) into the text input box. Move your mouse over the text input box and click once. Then you will be able to type your notes by hand or you can copy and paste TEXT from a word processor into the notes input box. You can add and delete characters/words/sentences just like a simple word processor such as the NotePad program in Windows.
  6. Once you have finished entering your notes, re-enter your password in the left-hand margin of the screen and click on the "SAVE AND NOTIFY" button. This will save your changes and send an automated email to everyone on your Notify Me list. If you made only minor changes (such as corrected a spelling error or selected a new background color) and do not need to alert everyone on your Notify Me list, then re-enter your password in the left-hand margin of the screen and click on the "SAVE" button.
  7. If your notes were saved, you can then View your notes to see if they look good.
  8. If you need to make changes to your notes, repeat the steps from the beginning.
  9. If you save your notes and the new notes don't show up, you may need to Refresh or Reload your browser. Your school network may also use a server which stores the old page and so you may need to check your new notes page the following day.

Spell Check

  1. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  2. Click on the "Create Notes" button at the top of the screen.
  3. Enter your school zipcode, account, and password.
  4. Click on the "LOGIN" button.
  5. Create or edit your text. Click on the gray "SPELL CHECK" button in the left hand gray margin area.
  6. Spelling errors will be highlighted. Each spelling error will consist of three boxes: a box highlighting the incorrect word, a drop down box, a gray "CHANGE" button. In the drop-down box, a suggested list of alternative spellings will be presented.
  7. Click on the down arrow on the drop-down box. The drop-down box will always begin with "No Change" and "Manual Correction." If you do not wish to change the spelling (as in the case of a name or other word which is spelled correctly but not in the dictionary), you should leave the "No Change" option set. If you wish to manually correct a word, move your cursor to the misspelled word in the far left box, click on that box, correct the spelling. Then move your cursor to the middle box (the drop-down box), click on the down arrow, select the "Manual Correction" option. Then click on the gray "CHANGE" button on the right.
  8. If you have multiple corrections to make, you can either hit the "CHANGE" button for each correction, or you can make all of the corrections and press any one of the "CHANGE" buttons when you have finished reviewing all corrections.
  9. If your notes look good, then click on the "BACK" button in the upper left corner under the SchoolNotes pencil logo. To save your notes enter your password and click "SAVE" or "SAVE AND NOTIFY".

Adding Links To Other Websites

  1. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  2. Click on the "Create Notes" button at the top of the screen.
  3. Enter your school zipcode, account, and password.
  4. Click on the "LOGIN" button.
  5. Click on "Favorite Links" in the left margin.
  6. This will bring you down the page to the "Add Your Favorite Web Links" section.
  7. Select with your mouse whether you want the list of links to appear at the top of your notes or at the bottom.
  8. You can add up to 10 different links to other web sites of interest. For each link you must enter the web address and then you can also add a comment. Use your mouse to move to each new link by clicking on the form and then typing your information.
  9. When you are done adding the link information, use the "Back to Top/Save" link on the left margin.
  10. Once you have finished entering your notes, re-enter your password in the left hand margin of the screen and click on the "SAVE" button.
  11. If your notes were saved, you can then View your notes to see how they appear.
  12. If you need to make changes to your notes, repeat the steps from the beginning.

Adding Textbook Links

  1. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  2. Click on the "Create Notes" button at the top of the screen.
  3. Enter your school zipcode, account, and password.
  4. Click on the "LOGIN" button.
  5. Click on "Textbook Links" at the left of the text input box.
  6. This will bring you down the page to the "Add Textbook Links Here" section.
  7. Use the "Select Subject / Curriculum" menu and click on your area of study.
  8. Then, use the "Select Textbook" menu and click on the textbook you are using.
  9. Finally, use the "Select Chapter/Unit" and click on the chapter or unit you will be covering in your class.
  10. You may choose to use the Add Comments field to add a comment for your users on the chapter or unit in question.
  11. If you wish to preview your notes to see how they appear, return to the top of the page by clicking on the "Back to Top/Save" link at the left and and click on the "PREVIEW" button.
  12. If your notes look good, then click on the "SAVE" button. You will need to enter your password.
  13. If your notes are not as you'd like them to appear, then click on the "RESTORE" button and begin the process again.
  14. If you need to make changes to saved notes, repeat the steps from the beginning.

Changing Your Email Address

  1. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  2. Click on the "Create Notes" button at the top of the screen.
  3. Enter your school zipcode, account, and password.
  4. Click on the "LOGIN" button.
  5. Click on "Email/Name" at the left of the notes text input box.
  6. This will bring you down the page to the "Edit Your Email Address Here" section.
  7. Check to see if your email address is correct.
  8. If you need to make changes, click on the field with your mouse and then type your correct email address, using the delete key to delete characters that are not needed.
  9. When you are done editing your email address information, use the "Back to Top/Save" link in the left margin to go back up to the top of the page.
  10. Once you have finished entering your notes, re-enter your password in the left hand margin of the screen and click on the "SAVE" button.
  11. If your notes were saved, you can then View your notes to see how they appear.
  12. If you need to make changes to your notes, repeat the steps from the beginning.

Making Corrections To Your Name and Other Info

  1. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  2. Click on the "Create Notes" button at the top of the screen.
  3. Enter your school zipcode, account, and password.
  4. Click on the "LOGIN" button.
  5. Click on "Email/Name" link on the left of the notes text input box.
  6. This will bring you down the page to the "Edit Your Email Address/Name Here" section.
  7. Check to see if your name information is correct.
  8. If you need to make changes, click on each field with your mouse and then type your desired name information, using the delete key to delete characters that are not needed.
  9. When you are done editing your name information, use the "Back to Top/Save" link on the left margin to go back up to the top of the page.
  10. Once you have finished entering your notes, re-enter your password in the left hand margin of the screen and click on the "SAVE" button.
  11. If your notes were saved, you can then View your notes to see how they appear.
  12. If you need to make changes to your notes, repeat the steps from the beginning.

Changing School Web Address

  1. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  2. Click on the "Create Notes" button at the top of the screen.
  3. Enter your school zipcode, account, and password.
  4. Click on the "LOGIN" button.
  5. Click on "School Info" on the left margin.
  6. This will bring you down the page to the "Edit Your School Information Here" section.
  7. Check to see if your school web address information is correct.
  8. If you need to make changes, click on the field with your mouse and then type the correct school web address, using the delete key to delete characters that are not needed.
  9. Once you have finished entering your notes, re-enter your password in the left hand margin of the screen and click on the "SAVE" button.
  10. If your notes were saved, you can then View your notes to see how they appear.
  11. If you need to make changes to your notes, repeat the steps from the beginning.

Changing School Info

  5. Click on "School Info" on the left margin.
  6. This will bring you down the page to the "Edit Your School Information Here" section.
  7. Check to see if your school information is correct.
  8. If you need to make changes, click on each field with your mouse and then type the correct school information, using the delete key to delete characters that are not needed.
  9. Once you have finished entering your notes, re-enter your password in the left hand margin of the screen and click on the "SAVE" button.
  10. If your notes were saved, you can then View your notes to see how they appear.
  11. If you need to make changes to your notes, repeat the steps from the beginning.

Adding Color or a Background To Your Notes

  1. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  2. Click on the "Create Notes" button at the top of the screen.
  3. Enter your school zipcode, account, and password.
  4. Click on the "LOGIN" button.
  5. Click on "Colors" on the left margin.
  6. This will bring you down the page to the "Edit Notes Page Colors Here" section.
  7. Click on each field with your mouse to select the desired color for text and background.
  8. DO NOT SELECT THE SAME COLOR FOR BOTH TEXT AND BACKGROUND OR YOUR TEXT WILL BE INVISIBLE.
  9. You may also select one of four backgrounds on the "Select a Background" line. The default will be None. To choose a background, select one of the radio buttons displayed to the left of each sample background displayed. If you select a background, make sure that if you are also selecting a text color that you choose a text color that is complementary to the background you have selected.
  10. Once you have finished entering your notes, re-enter your password in the left hand margin of the screen and click on the "SAVE" button.
  11. If your notes were saved, you can then View your notes to see how they appear.
  12. If you need to make changes to your notes, repeat the steps from the beginning.

Adding an Image or File Attachments

Note: This feature is only available to the Copernicus Education Gateways. If you would like more information on the benefits of having a customized Copernicus Education Gateway, please send your contact information to us at info@edgate.com.
  1. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  2. Click on the "Create Notes" button at the top of the screen.
  3. Enter your school zipcode, account, and password.
  4. Click on the "LOGIN" button.
  5. Click on "Add an Image" or "File Attachments" on the left margin.
  6. This will bring you down the page to the "Add an Image" or "Add Attachments" section.
  7. For Images: Click on the "Browse . . . " button on the far right of the line that says "Image #1." This will trigger the file upload function. Navigate to the correct subdirectory on your hard drive and select the image you wish to upload. This image must be in a web graphics format of .png, .jpg or .gif. Other image formats will not work correctly.
  8. The image will be displayed at the top of your web page. You may specify its placement by selecting one of the alignment radio buttons (Left, Right or Top Center). We recommend that you select a small image. A large image may overwhelm your web page.
  9. For Files: You may also specify between one and three documents to be uploaded. Click on the "Browse . . ." button on the right of any of the following lines: File#1, File #2, File #3. This will trigger the file upload function. Navigate to the correct subdirectory on your hard drive and select the file you wish to upload. You can upload simple text files, as well as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and other common file formats. Below the three fields for File Attachments, you may also enter text for comments.

Flashcards

  1. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  2. Click on the "Create Notes" button at the top of the screen.
  3. Enter your school zipcode, account, and password.
  4. Click on the "LOGIN" button.
  5. Click on "Flashcards" on the left margin.
  6. This will bring you down the page to the "Enter Flashcard Here" section.
  7. Click on the text input box with your mouse and type one flashcard per line. You can also copy and paste a text list from your word processor if desired.
  8. If you enter flashcards, a "Flashcards" link will be automatically added to your notes page in the top header section.
  9. Flashcards are displayed in order.
  10. Once you have finished entering your notes, re-enter your password in the left hand margin of the screen and click on the "SAVE" button.
  11. If your notes were saved, you can then View your notes to see how they appear.
  12. If you need to make changes to your notes, repeat the steps from the beginning.
  13. If a notes page has Flashcards, you will see a "Flashcards" link on the individual notes page in the header of the notes just above the date/timestamp of the notes page.
  14. To use the Flashcards, simply click on the "Flashcards" link as indicated above.

How To Change Your Password

  1. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  2. Click on "Acct Mgmt" in the left hand margin.
  3. Enter your school zipcode, account, and password.
  4. Click on the "LOGIN" button.
  5. If you would like to change your password, simply click on the "New Password" section and enter your desired new password. Then re-enter your new password. If you wish to change your "Password Reminder", click on box to the right of Password Reminder and enter a reminder that can be displayed should you forget your password. Then enter your current password and click on the "Change Password/Reminder" button.

How To Delete Your Account

  1. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  2. Click on "Acct Mgmt" in the left hand margin.
  3. Enter your school zipcode, account, and password.
  4. Click on the "LOGIN" button.
  5. If you wish to Delete your account, click on "Delete Account". You will then need to re-enter your password and confirm that you wish to delete your account.

How To Enter A School Passcode

Some accounts require a "School Passcode" be entered before the notes page is listed under the View Notes directory of teachers. If your teacher notes are not listed under the View Notes directory, and you are a teacher, this is probably the case.
  1. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  2. Click on "Acct Mgmt" in the left hand margin.
  3. Enter your school zipcode, your SchoolNotes.com account, and your SchoolNotes.com password.
  4. Click on the "LOGIN" button.
  5. Click on "Enter School Passcode"
  6. Enter the School Passcode
  7. Re-Enter your Account Password
  8. Click on the "Process Code" button.

** Note ** If you do not know your School Passcode, check with your school principal. If your principal cannot direct you to the school passcode information, please request that this information be mailed to your principal using the online School Passcode Request form.

How To Edit the Notify List For Your Notes

  1. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  2. Click on "Acct Mgmt" in the left hand margin.
  3. Enter your school zipcode, account, and password.
  4. Click on the "LOGIN" button.
  5. If you wish to see the list of email addresses being notified each time you update your school notes, click on "Show Notify List". The list of email addresses that are being notified are then shown.

Formatting Notes - Underline, Bold, Italics, Superscript

  1. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  2. Click on the "Create Notes" button at the top of the screen.
  3. Enter your school zipcode, account, and password.
  4. Click on the "LOGIN" button.
  5. To underline some text in your notes, insert <U> before it and </U> after it. To bold some text, insert <B> before it and </B> after it. To italicize some text, insert <I> before it and </I> after it.

    For example: To underline this sentence I would type it as follows:
    <U>To underline this sentence I would type it as follows:</U>

    To Subscript some text, insert <SUB> before it and </SUB> after it. To Superscript some text, insert <SUP> before it and </SUP> after it.

    The following sample will render like this:
    (X1,Y1)

  6. Once you have finished entering your notes, re-enter your password in the left hand margin of the screen and click on the "SAVE" button.
  7. If your notes were saved, you can then View your notes to see how they appear.
  8. If you need to make changes to your notes, repeat the steps from the beginning.

How To Copy And Paste From A Word Processor

You can copy and paste text right into your notes input box when you login to Create Notes. This is helpful if you want to spell-Check your notes first. Simply open your document in one window and your school notes browser logged in to Create Notes in another window. High-light the text from the document, click copy and then switch over to the browser window and click inside the notes input box, then go up to the Edit function of the browser and select paste.

Clip-art and special fonts will NOT be copied, only text. Also, some browsers, such as AOL, may not support the paste function and you should try using CONTROL-V (holding down the "Ctrl key and then pressing the "V" key) to paste.

How To View Notes

  1. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  2. Click on the "View Notes" button at the top of the screen.
  3. Enter your school zipcode for Teachers or for Students and then click on "View Notes".
  4. If notes pages exist for the zipcode entered, they will be listed by the last name of the individual teacher or student. You can then click on any of the notes pages to view those notes.
  5. If notes pages do not exist for the zipcode entered, let your teachers know about this tool for communication.
  6. If you save your notes and the new notes don't show up, you may need to Refresh or Reload your browser. Your school network may also use a server which stores the old page and so you may need to check your new notes page the following day.

How To Get Notified When Notes Change

  1. Go to the SchoolNotes.com Home Page.
  2. Click on the "View Notes" button at the top of the screen.
  3. Enter your school zipcode for Teachers and then click on "View Notes".
  4. If notes pages exist for the zipcode entered, they will be listed by the last name of the individual teacher. You can then click on any of the notes pages to view those notes.
  5. When you arrive at the notes page you desire, you may be notified via email whenever that page is changed by clicking on "Notify Me" in the left hand margin. Then enter your email address.
